Centacare Drug and Alcohol Service (CDAS) aims to assist young people and their families to reach their full potential when confronted by alcohol and other drug problems through provision of family work, individual counselling and an in-home detoxification service.

The successful applicant will be skilled in assessment and counselling of young people and their families who are affected by alcohol or other drugs.  They will have skills and experience in working in a family systems model, motivational interviewing and CBT.  They will work in a reflective, flexible team environment, interacting with a diverse range of agencies in supporting well-being of young people and their families.

Schools Assertive Outreach Services, falls within the national homelessness strategy ‘Turning off the Tap’ and will support young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to maintain their connection with education. Supporting young people to establish and maintain connections with education is considered crucial to minimising the impact of homelessness both in the short and long term.
The Schools Assertive Outreach Service recognises that housing instability, transience and homelessness each impact heavily upon a young person’s educational opportunities and future success.

The role of the Schools Assertive Outreach (SAO) team is to provide a specialised early intervention service response to secondary school students who have been identified as homeless or at risk of homelessness. SAO will provide support to young people a through outreach case management and group work.

The Case Manager works with young people and their families, school personnel and the community to facilitate the stabilisation of the young person’s housing and their reintegration into education, in both case work and group based settings.

Centacare’s Personal helpers and Mentors service provides Psychosocial Rehabilitation services within a Recovery framework to people living with a mental illness. Support Workers provide one on one or team support to individuals.

Support Workers will work with the individual to assist them to develop individual recovery and wellness plans and provide support in implementing them.

Critical to the success of this program will be the knowledge of Mental Health Services, case management and assessment knowledge, and strong partnership building skills. Central to recovery paradigm is the inclusion and empowerment of consumers for whom recovery is significantly more than the absence of symptoms. (Ellis 2003). Centacare Personal Helpers and Mentor services are consumer centred.

This position is outreach with the office based at Salisbury.

The role of the Drug Diversion Worker is to provide a brief intervention service to adults or young people who are referred by the police drug diversion line.

The role includes assessment, brief intervention, education, individualised support and counselling.
