At Centacare there is a unique program where social case work is being combined with psychotherapeutic and psychiatric interventions to provide a comprehensive multi-disciplinary service for extremely vulnerable families, most of whom are not able to or choose not to access traditional mental health services. The Centacare service can offer assertive outreach and flexibility in service delivery, which often enables the service to engage with severely disenfranchised families.

The registrar will work alongside the consultant psychiatrist, case managers and families in any of the Children’s Services Programs. These include Reunification Foster Care, Targeted Intervention Service, Family Preservation Service, Reunification service and Northern Family Support Services. The registrar will develop and effectively utilise the skills to accurately assess difficulties in parent and child relationships, using Centacare’s therapeutic framework. They will also learn to intervene therapeutically with families using targeted therapeutic interventions. This occur with the support of the consultant psychiatrist and unit staff. The registrar will also be involved in working collaboratively across agencies involved with the family including statutory agencies.
