What is a skill set?

Shorter than a qualification a skill set is a nationally accredited and recognised group of units (subjects) that are recognised as crucial for specific job roles. Skill sets are crafted in consultation with industry and are designed to meet current and future workforce requirements, ensuring industry-wide recognition, and enhancing employability.

Centacare will commence delivering the following skill sets in September/October 2024:

This skill set focuses on skill requirements for support workers providing services to clients with co-existing needs, inclusive of both mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues. The primary focus is on mental health and recovery with strong points of alignment for workers in the AOD sector.

Units of Competency:

  • CHCMHS004 Work collaboratively with the care network and other services
  • CHCMHS005 Provide services to people with co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues
  • CHCMHS010 Implement recovery oriented approaches to complexity
  • CHCMHS011 Assess and promote social, emotional and physical wellbeing

Duration: 6 Months

Cost: $350

Work placement: 160 hours

This skill set reflects the skill requirements for support workers providing services to clients with co-existing needs, including both alcohol and other drugs (AOD) and mental health issues. The primary focus is on AOD and relevant interventions and with strong points of alignment for workers in the mental health sector.

Units of Competency:

  • CHCAOD007 Develop strategies for alcohol and other drugs relapse prevention and management
  • CHCAOD008 Provide advanced interventions to meet the needs of clients with alcohol and other drugs issues
  • CHCCCS004 Assess co-existing needs
  • CHCMHS005 Provide services to people with co-existing mental health and alcohol and other drugs issues

Duration: 6 Months

Cost: $350

This grouping of units reflects the skill requirements to enhance consistency and supports for people experiencing homelessness in a variety of roles in the health and community sectors. The training has a specific focus on co-existing needs, as well as working within the social housing system and would suit workers wanting to upskill and develop new strategies for working in homelessness sector.

Units of Competency:

  • CHCCCS004 Assess co-existing needs
  • CHCSOH013 Work with people experiencing or at risk of homelessness
  • CHCSOH021 Work with clients within the social housing system

Duration: 6 Months

Cost: $300

*All courses above require an additional $100 non-refundable enrolment fee.
